TOP Teens Featured at Upcoming Youth Showcase

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

This year, teens enrolled in Southside’s Teen Outreach Program (TOP) received a Youth Mini-Grant from the St. Louis Mental Health Board that supported their service learning project aimed at helping individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The youth partnered with The St. Patrick Center for this project and prepared sandwiches and baked goods (183 sandwiches, 105 chocolate chip cookies, and 32 brownies to be exact!) for use in programs; organized a hygiene product donation drive at their schools; and volunteered at City Seeds Urban Farm, a horticultural job training program for St. Patrick Center clients through a partnership with Gateway Greening.

On Saturday August 14th, TOP participants will join other area youth to share their project with the community at a Youth Showcase presented by the St. Louis Mental Health Board. Through the guidance of Jackie Masei, founder and director of Playback Workshop Theater and teaching artist for the Southside Summer Arts Program, the teens will use Playback Theater to present moments from their service learning project. We invite you to come to the Youth Showcase to learn about and support the great work that Southside TOP teens and other St. Louis youth have accomplished in the community this year!

What: St. Louis Mental Health Board Youth Showcase
When:: Saturday, August 14, 2010, 2:00-4:00pm

Wyman are experts in developing teens – taking the best in teen development theory and making it real and effective for the young people we serve. The goal of Wyman programs is to enable our teens to become economically self-sufficient, leaders in their community and, ultimately, break the cycle of poverty.
